Throughout this year’s Indy Give! campaign, we’ve been discussing the importance of vision, as having a vision for your life is often the first step toward achieving your dreams and goals. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are no different, and also have visions for their lives.

Through The Arc Pikes Peak Region’s Building for Change Life Skills Resource Center, we will encourage people of all abilities to uncover their visions for their lives and learn the skills needed to make them a reality. This week, we are pleased to spotlight Self-Advocate Mitch Routon, who serves on The Arc of the United States’ Board of Directors, and as Vice President of The Arc of Colorado’s and The Arc Pikes Peak Region’s Board of Directors.

My vision is that one day, people with disabilities will not be ignored. I hope that people will stop and listen to our story — that we have rights just like anybody else. My vision includes helping self-advocates fight for equality, competitive wages, and the chance to be a part of their community.

We need your help to achieve our vision of creating an inclusive personal development center for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities!
