Our 17th gem is The Arc Pikes Peak Region co founder Don Haney (1911-2008). Mr. Haney and his wife Gratia Belle were instrumental to the foundation of The Arc PPR. They were parents to a son with down syndrome and sought to create a community where people of all abilities were included.
Mr. Haney also helped bring Martin Luther Homes, now known as MOSAIC to Colorado Springs Mr. Haney, a long time Colorado Springs resident graduated from Colorado College and received his law degree from University of Colorado.
Mr. Haney is the namesake of The Arc PPR’s perpetual award which honors a member of The Arc who has given outstanding service on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Don Haney was the first recipient of this award.
