Screen Shot 2015-07-28 at 11.18.19 PMOur 18th gem is former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. On January 7, 2011 Governor Bill Ritter granted a posthumous pardon to Joe Arridy, a man from Pueblo with an intellectual disability who was wrongly convicted and executed for a crime he did not commit.

Ritter also was involved in key legislation positively impacting people with disabilities including the formation of the interim committee on persons with disabilities.

Governor Ritter was awarded The Arc Pikes Peak Region’s Presidents Award in 2011. Governor Ritter, along with The Arc Pikes Peak Region, Bob Perske and the team responsible for Joe Arridy’s pardon were awarded The Arc of the United States’ Advocacy Matters Award in 2011.
