Our 22nd Gem is The Arc Peak Region’s former board member and champion of people of people with disabilities, Bert Fellows (1925-2011). Bert’s daughter. Georgeanne Fellows, was born with a developmental disability and Bert sought to create the best possible life for her. Bert was a motivating force in The Arc Pikes Peak Region and is the namesake for one of The Arc’s perpetual awards honoring volunteer work.
Bert was the first recipient of this award. Bert helped form Silver Key Senior Services, Cheyenne Village, the organization now known as The Pikes Peak Partnership and was influential in many Colorado Springs organizations. Bert was never one to take no for an answer and never stopped advocating for the people we are so proud to serve. Mix in a little bit of good old-fashioned horse sense, a great sense of humor, and you have Bert Fellows. #60GemsofTheArcPikesPeakRegion
