Our 35th gem is Joe Schiappacasse (1951-2002). Along with Louis Jackson, from the University of Northern Colorado, Joe developed the forum on behavior, which was a quarterly get together for caregivers, professionals and family members to talk about behavioral issues of people with disabilities.
Joe was always an uncompromising innovator Joe never failed to do the right thing.
Mr. Schiappacasse is the namesake of The Arc PPR’s perpetual award that honors an individual who has done the right thing no matter the risk.
Joe Schiappacasse was the first recipient of this award.
