Our 15th gem is the Friends of Joe Arridy. Joe Arridy was a man from Pueblo with an intellectual disability who was wrongly convicted and executed for a crime he did not commit.
Through the Friends of Joe Arridy including Bob Perske, Craig Severa, David Martinez and others, Joe Arridy was able to receive a posthumous pardon in 2011 by Governor Bill Ritter.
The Friends of Joe Arridy worked to grant Arridy the justice he deserved nearly seven decades after he was executed. This group is comprised of individuals who advocate for people with disabilities who have wrongly found themselves involved in the criminal justice system.
